It’s official: the Las Vegas vegan dining scene is on fire. The third vegan restaurant to be announced this month (following Blinders Burgers and Brunch and Chef Kenny’s Asian Vegan Restaurant) comes from another familiar face — Chef Robert Ferrara, who introduced vegan options to the fast-casual seafood spot, Off The Hook. Ferrara joins partner Amber Dunn to open Amber’s Smoked Vegan, a southern-style soul food joint opening in early May.

Dunn, who is originally from North Carolina and grew up living in the south making country food, had been wanting to become a vegan business owner for a long time.

“I had to sit down with myself and said ‘you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable’,” she explains. “That’s when I let my fear go.”

It’s also right around the time she saw Ferrara, who was wanting to make a change as well.

“After studying vegan cuisine and launching a vegan menu at Off The Hook, it inspired me to partner with Amber and open a fully-vegan restaurant,” says Ferrara. “We took input from the Las Vegas Vegans [Facebook group], and they wanted southern-style soul food, so here we are.”

While the menu is still in development, Amber’s Smoked Vegan plans on serving other comfort foods, too. The casual, quick-service restaurant will have dishes like BBQ Ribs with mac n’ cheese and greens, Fried Chik’n with sweet potatoes and greens, Po Boys with sweet potato fries and greens, “Fish” ‘n Chips, and burgers including the Beyond Burger. Items range from $5 – $15.

“Our goal is to make vegans healthy, happy and to make delicious southern comfort food,” she says. “Let’s give them the taste of the south.”

Located at 6475 W. Charleston Blvd., #150, hours haven’t been set as of yet. Amber’s Smoked Vegan is going to offer food for dine-in, take-out and delivery.
