Las Vegas Scores Its First Vegan Bar

Las Vegas is about to get its first official vegan bar concept, thanks to the imminent opening of Bar Boulevard. Set to open later this month, the spot located on E. Russell and Pecos adds another notch to the city’s growing vegan scene.

In true Las Vegas vegan community fashion, Bar Boulevard was spawned by a friendship between general manager Darren Picone and local vegan chef who goes by Steven the Vegan from Human(e) Food 702, who worked together at Vegan Meals by Mindy.

“From there a friendship blossomed and the concept evolved,” explains Angel Alonzo, creative director and kitchen manager for Bar Boulevard. “We are a small unconventional family that simply wants to bring life and color to the neighborhood and make a change in the world.”

The opening of the restaurant fills a gap in the vegan dining scene, offering up a pure vegan bar with a vegan chef at its helm.

Steven the Vegan, who has spent as an executive chef at vegan restaurants around town as well as running his Human(e) Food 702 catering business, is whipping up everything from fish tacos to chili, mac and cheese and even a raw pad thai.

“Cruelty free food for humans – that my concept,” says the chef. “Vegan food made by a vegan. It’s not a common thing to have a vegan chef, making vegan food in the city.”

The goal of Bar Boulevard is to bring more consciousness to the local community, according to Alonzo.

“It’s a unique and effective way to spread compassion and awareness,” she says. “The long term goal is to grow business so that we may be able to contribute to animal activism. and other charities making a difference in our community. Where there is a need, we would like to eventually be able to meet it. We’d like to cultivate a family atmosphere and all-around community vibe … where vegans and non-vegans alike can feel safe, come hang out and eat some delicious cruelty-free meals.

Bar Boulevard is set to be open 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily with extended hours once they’re up and running.
