This new version of Purple Potato (it was formerly located inside Yonaka) features our favorite thing: build-your-own bowls. We’re talking heavenly veggies, grains, dressings, and even more veggies, to make your own heaping bowl of goodness. This isn’t your typical bowl restaurant, either. It’s insanely good and lets you know just how much of a workout you need to do after you eat, thanks to its calorie counts on, well, every item.

If you’re not feeling creative, don’t worry. Purple Potato offers a handful of tried-and-true bowls created by the chef. But, if you want to go all in and make your own bowl masterpiece, building your own is the way to go.

We’re going to break it down for you because the two pages of options can get a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re hangry. You start with two base of your choice — and they are all vegan. Then, select your protein. Well, just tell them you want the maple tofu because that’s the only vegan option (but holy yum is it deeeee-licious). Next, it’s dressings. At the time of publishing this post, the dressings weren’t marked correctly and it shows only one option. Not. True. There are a few — just ask your server. Now, it gets a little crazy. You can pick up to 14 toppings to go on your bowl. Yup. Fourteen. Note: the first four come complimentary. After that, it’s priced per topping. Again, alllll vegan (until you get into the premium add-ons). Want some extra dressings? You get to pick up to three. Finally, add one umami topping to your bowl and voila.

Our favorite bowl is:

  • Base: Lemon herb brown rice, arugula
  • Protein: maple tofu (of course)
  • Dressing: chimichurri
  • Toppings: spicy garlic almonds, roasted broccoli, crunchy shiitake, bean sprouts
  • Extra dressings: red chili flakes
  • Umami: Kizame nori

But, the yum doesn’t stop there. We can’t not mention the desserts Purple Potato has. Don’t skip the purple potato pudding. It tastes like pumpkin pie, but a lot healthier. If you need chocolate, they’ve also got a Mexican chocolate pudding.

Did we forget to mention how affordable this place is? It’s ridiculously affordable. The aforementioned bowl? A cool $8.

The new and improved Purple Potato has an expanded menu complete with porridges, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, juices and smoothies and more.
